Frequently asked questions
I'm an artist or photographer. Can you work with me to frame an entire collection for a show?
Absolutely. I enjoy working with artists and photographers to design frames that highlight their work beautifully. I can also accommodate very specific sizing requirements for uneven or unusual matte sizes. This is one of the unique advantages of collaborating with a woodworker.
Do you work with reclaimed wood?
Yes, though each project is different. Contact me with the details of the material you have in mind, and we can discuss whether it’s suitable for framing.
Didn't answer your question?
Feel free to reach out anytime and I'll do my best to give you an answer!
What frame styles and designs do you offer?
Styles include but are not limited to float, gallery, photo, shadow box, live edge, etc. Within each style, there are many specific design possibilities.
What is your current lead time?
Typically less than two weeks for a single frame, longer if it is a large collection of frames. I will provide an accurate timeline for larger projects.
Do you offer matting and glazing services?
My services are flexible - clients who wish to do their own matting/mounting can hire me for the frame only. I can also cut mattes and foam core up to 40" capacity.
Do you warranty your work?
I am proud to offer a lifetime guarantee on all my frames. Please note, this warranty does not cover damage caused by improper hanging, natural disasters, or accidents.
What type of wood do you use?
I work with a wide range of domestic and exotic hardwoods, including maple, white oak, red oak, walnut, sapele, birch, ash, padauk, black limba, canary wood, and cherry. I also love working with live edge material. If you have a particular species in mind for your project, let me know—I may be able to source it.
How much does it cost?
There are a wide variety of factors that determine price. Wood species, frame dimensions, finish options, optional matting, etc. I am happy to provide a complimentary quote for your project once I have all relevant information.
Where do you source your wood from?
I support local Canadian hardwood dealers such as The Wood Vault (formerly KJP Select) and The WoodSource. These suppliers follow ethical and sustainable practices, which you can learn more about on their websites.
Do you wholesale?
Yes, wholesale partnerships are possible under the right circumstances. However, most of my sales are one of a kind commissions.
Do you sell/ship to US customers?
Yes, this is possible, but logistical details will need to be arranged ahead of time. Customers in the US will pay an equivalent price in USD based on current exchange rates.
What type of finish do you use? Is it safe?
I use Tried & True natural finishes, which are food-safe, non-toxic, and highlight the wood’s natural beauty. You can read more about them here. If you have a specific finish in mind, I can accommodate, though there may be additional charges as some finishes are incredibly expensive.
Do you ever apply stain or paint as a finish?
Not usually—I prefer to let the natural beauty of the wood speak for itself. That said, it can certainly be done. For example, I’ve had excellent results using black India ink on red oak for clients who wanted a deep, dramatic black finish that still shows some wood grain texture.
What type of hanging hardware do you offer?
This depends on the size of the frame. Smaller frames come with hardwood dowels and sawtooth hangers. Larger frames, such as float or poster frames, include heavy-duty D-ring hangers and lower-gauge (heavy duty) picture wire. I also offer metal french cleats for heavy framed mirrors.
Do you ship your products?
I plan to offer shipping soon. In the meantime, feel free to contact me if you need an order shipped and we may be able to arrange something.
Do you do custom work?
Yes, this is primarily what I do. I can build standard frame sizes too, but I specialize in the ability to build very specific frame sizes from unusual timbers.
